CTFRS is a professional Fire Brigade which was recently brought into being by amalgamating the 7 various municipalities thereby forming a more efficient service. The history of these municipal Fire Services date back as far as 1845 when the first professional Fire Brigade was established in Cape Town. Today the CTFRS consist of 28 fire stations serving a population of 3,497,097 and covering an area of 2461 km2. This relates to an estimated Number of Households 904,000. The service is divided into 3 strategically formed divisions or districts with a combined staff compliment of about 992 professional fire fighters and 131 Support staff. CTFRS places great emphasis on fire prevention and safety. Fire Education is conducted by the Fire & Life safety division, with dedicated staff to conduct school visits, informal settlement education, etc. The training section of CTFRS has 4 academies ensuring our fire fighters stay current with the most up to date advances in fire suppression. |
