Safety Tips

  •  Power Points - Don't overload power points or multi-boxes - use multi-boxes with circuit breakers
  • Heating - Remember the heater-metre rule - keep furniture, clothes and curtains at least one metre away from heaters and fire-places

Im a 23 year old Firefighter/EMT-Basic from Portland Maine USA. I have a fire science degree. Im currently in the process of moving to Cape Town and was wondering what the fire department is like. What do they want in a firefighter? Do they hire alot? What do I need to be qualified as a firefighter in South Africa?

My name is Tony. I am a wildland firefighter for the U.S. National Park Service working in Seqouia-Kings National Park.  I am hoping to one day expand my horizons explore firefighting in Cape Town.  Until then all is quiet here in Southern California but it is getting hotter and drier.   Be Safe All.
